Scala Beyond rolls out yet more underrated cult classics including one of my personal favourites, Angela Carter's In the Company of Wolves.

Growing up is hard to do in this double-dose of chilling 1980s British horror. THE COMPANY OF WOLVES sees Neil Jordan (THE CRYING GAME) and Angela Carter adapt the latter's groundbreaking feminist revision of Red Riding Hood into a gory, sumptuous feast for the senses, starring Angela Lansbury, Stephen Rea and David Warner.

In his debut film PAPERHOUSE, future CANDYMAN director Bernard Rose takes an acclaimed children's novel and turns it into a horrifying descent beyond the limits of a young girl's imagination. Don't let their child protagonists fool you; these are terrifyingly adult films about the nightmare of adolescence, shot through a warped prism of amazing art direction, literate scripts and unforgettable Freudian imagery. See these rarely-screened grown-up fairytales and prepare to sleep at night with the light on!
