A vocal triple bill that's bound to strike a chord with those who sway toward the musical word. Being the festival's final night, it's set to unfurl into a charmed, rousing knees up!
For more than three decades, John Hegley has been bewildering the nation with poems about glasses, dogs, vegetables, and dogs that are also vegetables. The accolade of ‘national treasure’ would undoubtedly bring a blush to his boyish cheeks, but would be well deserved nonetheless. If you like poems that creep up behind you and do things you’re not expecting, and songs accompanied by frenzied mandolin mayhem, then tonight’s your lucky night. ‘Scandalously talented’ Sunday Times There’ll also be a set from one of John’s own favourite poets, El Crisis: a one-man sound-system of chants and incantations, and sometime collaborator with artists as diverse as Estelle and Roots Manuva. To finish the evening and see out the festival we have The Bonfire Band: ‘The Bonfire Band are one of those bands that are just about to explode on the scene. They have a tremendous variety of song and their harmonies can make your spine tingle.’ Bruce Macgregor, BBC Radio Scotland
