Director Laura Attridge and movement director Niamh McKernan join forces for this exciting workshop exclusively for opera singers.

The workshop will give you the opportunity to develop different ways of building a character from scratch, and to examine in more depth any techniques you have already encountered as a performer.

This practical session will involve an exploration of both psychological and physical methods, giving you a variety of tools with which to approach your next role and inviting you to enrich your own craft as an individual artist. The afternoon will also include advice on how to most effectively bring these tools into a rehearsal room, a performance or an audition.

SUITABLE FOR: Opera Singers.

LEVEL: Intermediate. Intended for singers who have completed or are still undertaking conservatoire/YA training, and are already working professionally.

ABOUT LAURA ATTRIDGE:

Laura Attridge is a dynamic director of opera and theatre with a passion for collaborative creative work. She founded And So Forth in 2015 with the aim of providing opportunities for exceptional emerging artists to develop their craft. Laura directed and co-wrote ASF’s first production, Damsel/Wife/Witch, a piece for two actors and a mezzo-soprano which premiered at the Asylum Chapel in 2015. As a director, Laura has worked with numerous exciting theatre companies showcasing new writing, including pieces at the Southwark Playhouse, Arts Theatre, Tristan Bates Theatre, Camden People's Theatre and Etcetera Theatre. She has also directed two France/UK tours for Opera Loki: La Bohème in 2015 and Così fan tutte in 2016. In addition, Laura has been an assistant director for English Touring Opera, Opera Holland Park, Blackheath Halls Opera, W11 Opera, British Youth Opera and the Royal Academy of Music. Laura trained in Vocal Studies at the Royal College of Music after obtaining First Class Honours in English Literature from Newcastle University. She is also a successful librettist and poet.
