How has memory shaped music that is never written down?

Kathryn Tickell, herself rooted in the traditional music of Northumbria, finds out in a programme with live bands from different world traditions, including Sam Lee and Friends, whose focus is on the music of the Gypsy and Traveller communities. This event takes place as part of “Why Music? The Key to Memory” — a series that, with the help of acclaimed musicians, scientists and experts, explores the implications of music’s unique capacity to be remembered, and keep us in the moment, through wide-ranging discussions and live performances.
