The very first Idler Book Club: Three Men In A Boat with Tom Hodgkinson

The idea is that we will hold a book club each month where will discuss a great book in the canon of idling literature.

The first book club will discuss Three Men In A Boat by Jerome K. Jerome, in which three pals make an attempt to escape industrial Britain by going on a pleasant trip up the Thames. We will also look at some of Jerome’s other contributions to the world of idling: he edited an Edwardian periodical called The Idler (Tom will have some of these to inspect) as well as collections of essays such as Idle Thoughts of an Idle Fellow (which might make a nice going home present).
