DIY Cultures returns for 2016 with a day-long festival of zines, artist books and comics, dedicated to the spirit of independence, autonomy and alternatives.
Come celebrate the survival of the zine, the comic, the film, the record and the print at this year's DIY Cultures. Featuring talks, workshops and exhibitions, as well as music, film and animation, the festival will once again pack in activism, politics and alternative protest in the form of a grassroots media takeover at Rich Mix, Bethnal Green.
Alongside the main festival, there will also be a programme of events and a special two week exhibition of Radical Libraries taking place at Cafe Gallery, produced and curated by Hamja Ahsan and Helena Wee of Other Asias, and Sofia Niazi of OOMK Zine.
Calls for tables, workshops, film, animation and gifs are now open until 13th March, with full details of the day’s line-up still to be announced. Panels already confirmed include the Decolonising Libraries panel, the Radical Mental Health panel, and the Shy Radicals. Workshops include the History of Radical Black Arts Magazines:From Black Phoenix to Race Revolt.
