A workshop for artists exploring how we can interrogate the ethics of funding opportunities and respond to unethical funding scenarios.

The ethics of funding art and culture keeps hitting the headlines. Recent controversies around Sackler grants, arms industry receptions and oil sponsorship deals are leading artists to ask: how can we fund our work without compromising our values?

In this lively discussion and workshop, artists, independent producers and employees of arts organisations are encouraged to explore what power they have when faced with an offer from an unethical funder, how they can take a stand without losing opportunities, and what shifts need to happen in the sector to reduce the risk of artists being placed in these uncomfortable funding situations.

Facilitated by Culture Unstained and Platform, with insights from artists who have grappled with this challenge themselves, this event uses real-life examples to highlight dilemmas, suggest strategies and explore opportunities for collective action. It aims to broaden the conversation around arts funding and bring in voices that are under-represented in these debates.
