This is the true, and very queer tale, of one soul’s journey through the wasteland of mental illness, to deliver their lost love.

Thursday 19 - Saturday 21 September.

Roundly applauded by critics and audiences alike for its unflinching honesty and its deft storytelling, the show was an unqualified highlight of the Edinburgh Fringe 2018.

Brimming with psychedelic proletarian prose, and trenchant wit, it recounts the pandemonium of navigating mental health services on behalf of a loved one, whilst being gender queer, and occasionally being mistaken for a patient.

Drawing on epic poetry, classical mythology, and queer modernist literature, A Generous Lover fuses psychology, euphonic prose, and song, to create an intimate and beguiling world. Somewhere between a séance and a recital, it delves into psychosis with compassion, hoping to find catharsis.

La JohnJoseph works at the intersection of artist film and live performance, exploring the friction between social class, gender identity, and religious faith. A maker of contemporary relics, La JJ explores materiality as a conduit for the immaterial, they use personae to dismantle notions of fixity, and camp to usurp the natural.
