Regarded as the rowing equivalent of the LDN Marathon, Viking boats clash with a Gentlemen’s skiffs, The Great River Race overflows with colour, fancy dress, festivities, competition & casual fun.

From its debut in 1988, The Great River Race now has firmly established itself in the sporting calendar to such an extent that experienced crews describe it as a classic event - the one they all want to win.

Entries have snowballed from a mere 72 entrants to a massive 300 boats carrying over 2,000 competitors racing for 35 trophies. This prestigious event is a fun day out for all the family. Those not competing can take a picnic and settle down to watch the action or follow the winding course right to the heart of the city.

...And with its intriguing mix of colour, spectacle, intense competition and casual fun, it combines all the ingredients that made London's 'other' marathon such a success; but with the addition of dozens of great photo opportunities as the race progresses from the striking Docklands skyline at the start, through cntral London until it reaches its semi-rural Surrey conclusion.
