Communion music invite some of their Next Big Things to brighten up our February.
Lowell
This Canadian act has a distinct, raw sound and attitude lurking under the surface of her beautiful voice. It’s no wonder Lowell has begun to turn heads and grab people’s attention.
Alex Vargas
You may have seen Alex supporting Andy Burrows back in August. His track ‘Wasteland’ builds delicate acoustic guitar with Alex’s stunning voice, to create a beautiful track.
Garda
This German based band’s new material rises above the band’s original folk context, condensing into complex formations, densely woven and majestic. Ballads shatter on walls of noise. Fragile guitar picking unexpectedly unfolds into seemingly electronic drum beats, angular piano, softly hovering guitars, brass, and cello. The frequent use of lap steel and pedal steel guitars rarely evokes contemporary alt-country romanticism, tying shimmering, abstract webs instead.
Natasha Hawes
At only 18 year old, Newcastle’s Natasha Hawes track ‘Stepping Stone’ has the perfect balance of with her light, delicate voice and dark lyrics.
The Daturas
The Daturas are an indie psychedelic folk band from the small west country town, Bradford on Avon. They infuse acoustic guitar, pedal steel, Wurlitzer and 3 part harmonies, on top of driving beats and bass to create a sound like no other. It needs to be heard or seen to understand.
Josh Weller
Described as ‘no ordinary singer/songwriter’ by the Guardian, Josh Weller brings his quirky mix of showtune infused pop to the Communion stage. Expect a theatrical performance.
