A celebration of Nick Drake's seminal album Bryter Layter
On Sunday 13 October, Classic Album Sundays will celebrate Nick Drake’s seminal album “Bryter Layter”. The album will be presented by CAS founder Colleen ‘Cosmo’ Murphy and guest host Nick Drake-producer Joe Boyd. Following the album presentation, the album will be played in it’s entirety on an exquisite Audio Note hi-fi.
This will take place in the atmospheric and intimate surroundings of the chapel at The House of St Barnabas, with all proceeds going to their homeless charity which works to provide employment to those sufffering from homelessness.
CAS allows the listener to fully immerse themselves in the music by presenting the musical context, the story behind the album and an uninterrupted replay of the album on vinyl on one of the world’s best audiophile hi-fi sound system (with phones switched off and no conversation). People learn about the history of the album and contemporary relevance, and then hear things they have never heard before. Often people are moved to tears when they hear the details and full emotive force of their favorite recordings through the enhanced performance playback.
Nick Drake has become a cult figure since his untimely death and has been an inspiration to many musicians including REM, Dream Academy, Lucinda Williams, Paul Weller, Robyn Hitchcock and too many more to mention. His first two albums were produced by Joe Boyd who discovered Drake and has his own interesting story to tell.
