Two award-winning, magnificent failures - Brian Lobel & Gweneth-Ann Rand join forces to present a show about failure, about trying your best, aiming to please & how we ever know if we are good enough.

After failing to win numerous awards and after many unsuccessful funding applications, 24 Italian Songs and Arias comes to Certain Blacks: a recital, an opera, a gathering for (and by) those whose best isn’t always enough.

Beloved performance artist Brian Lobel failed to get into the New York State Choir. Soprano Gweneth-Anna Rand (4.48 Psychosis: Royal Opera House, Aida: English National Opera) failed to win at Cardiff Singer of the World, 24 Italian Arias also failed to win the Oxford Samuel Beckett Theatre Trust Award hence the exploration of this theme. The night celebrates world class opera performers and the power of the voice via live arias, so close, you could almost touch them.
