A rare opportunity to see Marcie Begleiter's documentary on one of America's foremost postwar artists, Eva Hesse.

American artist Eva Hesse (1936-1970) is renowned for the work she made using diverse materials such as rope, latex, and fibreglass, as well as multiple graphic drawings and paintings. Working predominantly within the decade of the 1960s, the level of Hesse’s development and productivity has few parallels. Intricate and complex, the nature of her oeuvre itself defies simple categorisation.

‘Eva Hesse’ is the first feature-length appreciation of her life and work. The film deepens the understanding of this extraordinary artist, not only in terms of her ground-breaking work, but also the life that provided the fertile soil for her achievements. With new interviews, high quality footage of artwork, and a wealth of newly discovered archival imagery, the documentary not only traces Hesse’s path but engages in a lively investigation into the creative community of 1960s New York and Germany.
