“LAURENCE ANYWAYS” follows a Montreal couple through a decade-long rollercoaster ride of love, lust and fluid sexuality.
In the ’90s, Laurence (Melvil Poupaud – ‘A Summer’s Tale,’ ‘Broken English’) tells his girlfriend Fred (Suzanne Clément – ‘I Killed My Mother’) that he wants to become a woman. In spite of the odds, in spite of each other, they confront the prejudices of their friends, ignore the council of their families, and brave the phobias of the society they offend, embarking on an epic journey of what seemingly feels like an impossible love.
Coming from the same director of the award-winning ‘I Killed My Mother’ and ‘Heartbeats,’ this is Xavier Dolan’s third epic feature. It premiered at the 2012 Cannes Film Festival where it competed in the Un Certain Regard section, where it won the Queer Palm Award along with Suzanne Clement winning the Un Certain Regard Award for Best Actress. It went on to win the Best Canadian Feature Film at the 2012 Toronto International Film Festival.
