Presented by East End Film Festival and Open City Documentary Festival, this documentary focuses on Laura Albert who fooled the literary world as the renegade, hustler-teen author JT LeRoy.

This endlessly riveting film explores the unmasking of the troubled, 15-year old, transgender literary wunderkind JT LeRoy as 'Brooklyn housewife' Laura Albert. Exploring the maze of Albert's shifting identity, the documentary unpicks one of the greatest literary hoaxes of all time. With interviews with Albert herself, plus recorded phone conversations with her friends and collaborators (ranging from Gus Van Sant and Tom Waits to Courtney Love and Asia Argento - all devotees of her brutally 'honest' writing) this is a freewheeling exploration of self and authorship. As Albert herself says, JT LeRoy was created "the way an oyser creates a pearl: out of irritation and suffering".
