This introduction to Film Noir will feature some of Hollywood's most stylish and influential crime movies.

Nights of Noir combines 3 nights of screenings with a pre-show theatrical experience and post-show Q&A’s with Time Out’s Film critic, Dave Calhoun (9-11 November).

Friday’s bill includes the hugely influential Kiss Me Deadly and David Lynch’s masterpiece Blue Velvet; Saturday thrillers include Robert Mitchum’s terrifying performance in The Night of the Hunter and the Coen Brothers’ classic Fargo; and Sunday offers another two rare opportunities to see some Noir greats on the big screen, with Stanley Kubrick’s heist film The Killing and Robert Altman’s seminal The Long Goodbye.

Before each film, specialist Noir Director Philip Wilson, will transform The Old Vic Tunnels into shadowy evocations of film noir locations: brick alleys, a run-down police station, a seedy bar. Here, audiences will encounter actors who will recreate the key roles of this genre - the cynical private eye, the shady criminal, the glamorous femme fatale - and pay homage to the crackling one-liners of noir scripts. In addition, musicians will take us back to the smoky bandstands of the Forties, through songs from the period.
