As an activist and filmmaker, Jonas Mekas’s influence on independent cinema is huge.
Mark Webber introduces some of his poetic dispatches from New York’s post-war avant-garde in the first part of a two-month tribute at the BFI.
The Serpentine is also hosting an exhibition of the artist's film, video and photographic works from throughout his remarkable and prolific sixty-year career.
