Part of the Vivien Leigh season at the BFI, this film was lost for many years but now the BFI have got their hands on a copy.
Kenneth More recreates his stage role as a raffish young pilot who falls for Hester (Leigh), the middle-aged wife of a judge. But as the relationship flounders, Hester is forced to re-evaluate her life. Although a flawed version of Rattigan’s play, this is a rare opportunity to watch one of Leigh’s lost performances, as the film has remained unseen for many years. The BFI National Archive has made a digital copy of the only surviving 35mm print we were able to locate; the condition is variable.
