The world premiere of a live score by rising star contemporary composer Bushra El-Turk, accompanying Lotte Reiniger’s ground-breaking film ‘The Adventures of Prince Achmed’, the world’s first feature-length animation.
Performed by a chamber ensemble combining classical Western and traditional Middle Eastern instruments, this is a unique celebration of multicultural musical styles.

With dazzling visual effects, a sharp sense of humour and an enchanting story from The Arabian Nights, ‘Prince Achmed’ (1926) established Reiniger as a major cinematic pioneer. Championed on its release by Jean Renoir among others, the film anticipates early Disney animations by over a decade.
Bushra El-Turk is a multi-award-winning British-Lebanese composer, El-Turk’s work has won international acclaim and been performed by the LSO, BBC Symphony Orchestra and London Sinfonietta. She is currently on attachment to the LSO Panufnik Programme. Presented as part of WOW: Women of the World at Southbank Centre in partnership with Birds Eye View's Sound & Silents, commissioning new live scores to classic silent films for the Birds Eye View Film Festival 2013: Celebrating Arab Women Filmmakers.
