A beautiful duet of movement, free form jazz & a barrel full of black paint, Nadj & Szelevényi evoke the spirit & presence, of this most mysterious of creature.

Wise birds, harbingers of death, symbols of the divine and diabolical, crows hold powerful sway over the human imagination.

In a beautiful duet featuring movement, free form jazz and a barrel full of lustrous, inky black paint, Josef Nadj and Akosh Szelevényi evoke the spirit, and presence, of this most mysterious of creatures. At its climax, in an extraordinary process of transformation, Nadj becomes simultaneously paintbrush, bird and the essence of blackness itself.

Josef Nadj’s work has been a highlight of LIMF programmes since his Woyzeck in 1999, most recently in 2008 with Spanish artist Miquel Barcelo in the LIMF / Barbicanbite co-presentation of Paso Doble, subsequently performed at the Venice Biennale. He is a painter, sculptor, photographer, dancer, and director of France’s National Choreographic Centre in Orléans. Akosh Szelevényi, saxophonist and multi-instrumentalist, has collaborated on numerous projects with Josef Nadj since 2003. He also composes music for theatre, dance and circus.
