Save the Duke of Uke
The Duke of Uke is London’s only dedicated ukulele emporium. They opened their doors 5 years ago, with the intention of providing a quality, old-fashioned shopping experience and a vibrant hub for like-minded artists and musicians. It has been an ongoing labour of love, but worth every last effort, and they are now very honoured to be ranked within Time Out’s list of London’s 50 best shops.
However the Duke of Uke is more than a shop. Providing schools tuition, group lessons, hosting musical performance nights and housing a recording studio, they like to think that it has become a cultural landmark for many Londoners.
Sadly however, having contributed to the overall buzz and excitement of the Spitalfields area, they have unwittingly put the Duke of Uke in jeopardy.
Realising the new potential of the area, their landlord recently gave us notice on our premises in order to house one of his own business ventures. They now have until the end of July to vacate the premises.
The Duke of Uke was never intended to be a highly profitable business, but a sustainable enterprise that brought people together. They've been star tenants and so were certainly not expecting to be evicted.
They do not have the profits or spare funds to put down on new premises, so in the current financial climate, with the banks holding on tightly to their purse strings, the Duke of Uke now faces an uncertain future.
So now, more than ever, your custom will be greatly appreciated.
They’re determined not to let these unfortunate circumstances blight our spirit! So they’re on a mission to raise enough funds so that they can make the necessary move to new premises and build a new recording studio.
They’ve produced a new Duke of Uke T-shirt to mark their 5th year anniversary and they’re planning a series of fundraising events to help with the cause, so if you value what they’ve attempted to do here at the Duke of Uke please show your support.
You can show your support by buying one of their newly designed 5th year anniversary T-shirts – for every T-shirt sold £6 will go towards the new premises.
Or better still please make a donation through Paypal to help save the Duke of Uke.
You can also visit facebook/dukeofukelondon, add them to your favourite pages and share them with all your friends.
That way they can keep you up to date with the campaign to save the Duke of Uke including all the upcoming events in the pipeline.
