JOB OPPORTUNITY: part-time administrator for Magma Poetry Magazine
Self-employed, living in London and working from home. Flexible working arrangements. Up to 500 hours per year at £10 per hour.
Magma’s continued growth as one of the UK’s leading poetry magazines means that we now need a part-time administrator. This is an opportunity to become part of a small, lively and expanding publishing business.
The administrator will live in London and work from home. You will service new subscriptions and postal sales; maintain our databases of subscribers to the magazine, to the blog and to our e-newsletters; update the website at ... as directed; service independent bookshops (we have a distributor for the chains); deal with sales at the launch readings held for each issue and support sales at poetry festivals. You will also undertake mailouts of leaflets for marketing purposes.
In October to January you will administer our highly successful poetry competition, receiving and processing entries by post and email, and forwarding entries to the judges. You will look after sales at our competition awards event in February.
You will also answer emails at info@magmapoetry.com, referring them to Board members if necessary.
The post is therefore potentially very varied, giving practical experience of many aspects of running a literary magazine. Hours of work are likely to vary month by month and the work will generally be carried out at times to suit the person appointed. Self-motivation and reliability are therefore essential; an interest in poetry is an advantage.
Further information is available from Laurie Smith, Magma’s Chair, at info@magmapoetry.com. The closing date for applications is Monday 6 May 2013 with interviews in Central London in May. The successful applicant will start work on a date to be agreed.
