Job Opportunity: Executive Director, Lyric Hammersmith

The Lyric Hammersmith is one of the UK’s leading producing theatres. Over its 125 year history it has been responsible for creating some of the country’s most acclaimed theatrical productions and has also gained a national reputation for its work with children and young people.
The Lyric is currently at a major moment in its history. It re-opened in April 2015 following a £20 million pound redevelopment which has included the refurbishment of the existing theatre and the creation of a major new extension called the Reuben Foundation Wing.

This senior executive position is responsible for working alongside the Lyric’s Artistic Director Sean Holmes to set the strategic direction of the company and for ensuring that the theatre thrives both artistically and financially now and in the future.

PERSON SPECIFICATION 

Essential 

• Significant and proven senior professional experience in a cultural or educational organisation which could be a charity, social enterprise or commercial organisation. 

• Experience of carrying financial responsibility for an organisation and ensuring the delivery of ambitious financial targets across a range of different income sources including sales and fundraising. 

• A thorough understanding of the Lyric’s position in the UK’s theatre and arts ecology and a genuine interest and enthusiasm for the organisation’s history and work. 

• A commitment to the creative development of children and young people and an in depth understanding of arts and young people practice. 

• A flexible strategic thinker with a vision for the how the Lyric could develop over the next five years. 

• Experience of leading, motivating and managing large and diverse groups of people. 

• Experience of managing and meeting the needs of a wide range of different and complex stakeholders. 

• Excellent negotiation and communication skills. 

• A demonstrable commitment to equality and environmental sustainability. Three Kingdoms, 2013 Desirable 

• Experience in producing theatre shows and the development of artists. 

• An understanding of charitable management and due diligence. 

• Experience of working with a board of voluntary trustees.

An appointment package appropriate to the level of this position will be negotiated with the successful candidate. The person appointed will be engaged as an employee and receive the company’s usual pension contribution, holiday pay and benefits. Any offer of employment will be subject to satisfactory references; evidence of right to work in the UK; and an Enhanced Disclosure Barring Certificate. The post-holder will be expected to fulfil the hours required to do the job, including some evening and weekend work, but is not expected to work more than an average of 48 hours per week across the year in line with the Working Time Regulations. The post is subject to a six month probation period. Notice period is four weeks by either party during the probationary period and six months thereafter for both employee and employer.
