Job Opportunity: Digital Editor, London Review of Books

The London Review of Books is looking for a Digital Editor to increase the LRB’s audience reach and engagement.

The ideal candidate will be familiar with the LRB and its archive. S/he will work closely with the other editors but the role does not include editorial work on the paper or blog.

The Digital Editor will curate content for our web, mobile, app, email and social media platforms, with the aim of improving the reader’s experience and boosting engagement, while ensuring consistency of tone and LRB house style.

S/he will develop email, social media and other content-based strategies to increase traffic and engagement with the articles, blog posts, podcasts and videos. UX design, user testing and analytics will be an integral part of the process, so experience in these areas will be essential.

S/he will be responsible for daily digital content management: calendar planning, writing and editing promotional copy across digital media, improving work flows, SEO, analytics and the management of deadlines.

As the LRB redesigns and develops its current digital platforms, the Digital Editor will be closely involved in these projects, working alongside a team of developers, designers and product managers in an agile environment.

S/he will collaborate with the Editorial, Design, Marketing, Advertising, Production, Retail, Business Intelligence and Digital Development teams.

The role is located in-house in Central London.

Key areas of responsibility:

  • Define and develop the digital content strategy of the magazine in line with editorial policy and business objectives.

  • Write, edit and proofread copy for all LRB digital platforms. Select and integrate images, videos and other rich content when appropriate.

  • Establish and manage ways of curating content, thinking about how best to use our 35-year archive.

  • Ensure consistency and quality of digital copy across all areas of the business (including retail).

  • Ensure that editorial integrity, accuracy and voice are maintained.

  • Understand and use analytics to inform and improve content strategy.

Qualifications

  • Education to degree level.

  • Relevant professional training or certification relating to UX, agile and other digital skills (desirable but not essential).

Experience

  • At least three years’ experience writing, editing and maintaining content online using a range of channels and technologies.

  • At least three years content strategy/audience development experience.

  • Proven record in delivering projects by building consensus and working effectively with cross-departmental teams.

  • Experience of working with a product manager and a development team, ideally in an agile environment.
