Are you passionate about fundraising? Would you like to support one of the world's most prestigious museums? In this fulfilling and challenging role, you will manage the Science Museum's Patrons Programme and fundraise to meet set financial targets.  As part of the Major Donor team, you will identify, cultivate and steward donors. You will also work with colleagues to create a range of events to cultivate and steward Science Museum Patrons.

Purpose of the Job

As a member of the major philanthropic giving team, the post holder will have responsibility for day to day management of the Patrons programme to deliver unrestricted philanthropic support for the Science Museum and a programme of events designed to engage patrons with the work and vision of the Museum.

Key Deliverables/Accountabilities

  • To develop comprehensive plans for the discovery, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of Patron prospects to maximise income and influence from supporters of the Museum

  •  To manage personal portfolio of Patrons prospects and regularly and strategically review with Head of Patrons and Prospect Research colleagues to strengthen pipeline of prospects

  • To identify appropriate cultivation and stewardship event opportunities to engage Patrons and potential prospects and deepen their relationship with the Museum

  • To manage Patrons event activity (including private hires and associated invoicing), working in partnership with the Development Events team to ensure events are delivered to the highest standard

  • To work closely with Head of Patrons, Major Donor and Research colleagues to ensure identification and appropriate cultivation of highest value prospects in support of the major donor prospect pipeline

  • Work with team to set annual financial goals based on portfolio

  • Meet realistic visit/meeting goals and fundraising targets

  • Utilise Raiser’s Edge extensively, file reports in timely manner

  • To work as a team player across the Development Department leveraging opportunities to engage our community

  • Represent Development and the Patrons team across Museum in a professional manner and liaise closely with multiple internal departments to ensure successful management of new and existing relationships

  • Follow proper procedures and protocols with systems and general administrative actions, including utilisation of Raiser’s Edge

  • Work closely with Major Donor, Trusts, Foundations and Government and Corporate colleagues to identify and nurture relationships important for the Museum

  • Take care of your personal health and safety and that of others and report any health and safety concerns.  Ensure proactive compliance with Science Museum Group H&S Policies, including risk assessments and implementing safe systems of work

  • Other duties, as reasonably assigned by Director of Development, SMG, Head of Principal Giving and Head of Patrons.

Candidate Profile

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of fundraising

  • Experience of working with senior staff and volunteers to identify and cultivate prospects

  • Experience of working closely with other fundraising streams

  • Experience of prioritising and balancing a busy workload.

Desirable

  • Experience working with fundraising & donor management databases or software.

  • Experience of working in the cultural sector, with an interest in museums and galleries.

Skills, Knowledge and Relevant Qualifications

  • Strong communication & listening skills

  • Persuasive writing skills

  • Ability to work on tasks independently, as well as working effectively within a team

  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information tactfully and with integrity

  • Strong IT skills, especially in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint

Scope for Impact

This position will play a role in generating valuable unrestricted income from Patrons to the Museum, and engaging individuals who have the capacity and inclination to become more involved with the Museum as Major Donors. 

This person will be confident in dealing with senior staff and volunteers, and able to communicate and work closely with people at all levels across the Museum.

This person will need to demonstrate excellent cross team communication skills.
