Arts & Culture PR Assistant - 6 month contract at Margaret
Reporting to Margaret’s senior PR Manager and PR Director, this role will require the candidate to work across multiple projects within our busy cultural PR department. With an emphasis on visual arts, photography and design, you may also be asked to assist on film and music PR campaigns. The role will include the following tasks and day-to-day work:
General press office support, including:
– Managing of digital press cuttings and press archive – scanning and filing select print press coverage.
– Liaising with press cuttings agency to ensure relevant press coverage is being sent through to our portal and updating them with new projects / key words.
– Managing and updating media databases, including adding Margaret media contacts to media database account.
– Compiling PR project media reports for clients including coverage analysis.
– Responding to general press enquiries related to Margaret PR projects, with an emphasis on arts and culture PR projects.
– Researching new / specialist press, in particular digital contacts and monitoring media for editorial changes and current press stories relevant to projects.
– Downloading, labeling and filing press images for projects and creation of low res thumbnail image sheets.
– Screen-grabbing and filing of digital media coverage.
Assisting on individual PR projects undertaken by Margaret as directed by senior Margaret PR team members, to include:
– Circulating and uploading of manual listings information online
– Sending out press releases and information to media.
– Issuing press images, DVD screeners, production notes, review copies of books and other relevant press information to media who request it.
– Following up individually with media by phone and email to secure press coverage across a range of titles and outlets, in particular online media previews on blogs and websites.
– Reporting back on a regular basis to senior PR team members.
– Managing RSVPs for press launch events.
– You may also be asked to occasionally attend and work as part of Margaret’s PR team at press launches, film preview screenings, gallery private views and other relevant events, with particular emphasis on overseeing media requirements.
General Office Tasks:
– Coordinating and sending out the monthly Margaret newsletter.
– Adding new contacts to the Margaret newsletter database.
– Helping oversee PR interns, ensuring tasks delivered on time / accurately.
– Regular buying of newspapers to scan for contacts, angles / feature ideas.
– Creation and upkeep of new coffee table press book for general PR presentation.
– Social media: ensuring that all good press coverage is communicated across our Margaret channels.
– Social media: maintain and develop social media networks, increasing likes / followers.
Requirements & Application:
– Minimum previous experience working in a cultural / arts focused press office or PR agency: 12 months.
– This is a full time role, based on an initial 6 month contract from January – June 2013, with a view to it being extended into a permanent position, depending on performance and project requirements.
– Monthly fee based on experience.
– Margaret’s regular office hours are 10am – 6pm.
– We are based in London Fields, Hackney. Central London travel expenses will also be covered.
