The Grey Liberation Front is a hilarious and heartwarming first feature from an award-winning director and the producer of critically acclaimed feature Four. Check out the video below for Nathan's personal plea!
The film is set almost entirely within the confines of a suburban retirement home, which is thrown into disarray by the arrival of Joan, a somewhat flamboyant older gentlemen to be played by Simon Callow (Four Weddings and a Funeral). Other confirmed cast include Nina Wadia (Eastenders) as Rachida, the uptight manager who insists on calling Joan 'John'.
In this most unlikely of settings, at this most unlikely time of life, Joan is offered love and acceptance by Jim, another gentleman resident. Will Joan accept it? And will he and his fellow residents accept the most outrageous proposal of all? Cue wedding bells…
The Grey Liberation Front needs a five week shoot: they need to travel our cast and crew to set, feed them whilst they're on it, and give them something to take home after all their hard work. They need to hire equipment and locations, to pay for exciting things like make-up and costume, and less exciting ones like insurance and administration. Then there's post-production - a couple of months to deliver a final cut, and the music rights to cover (it's going to be a soaring operatic score!). And that's not the end of it - there'll be further costs to deliver the film to festivals such as Cannes and promote it to the widest possible audience.
How you can help!
They're aiming to start shooting in Spring 2015. And... they're aiming to raise 10% of the total budget on Indiegogo.
Money raised here will go specifically to support upcoming talent: the film industry is still tough to break into unless you're lucky enough to have contacts through friends and family, or can afford to build a CV by working for free. For many of our creative team this will be their first opportunity to gain a head of department credit on a feature - they'd like to be able to offer them a living wage whilst they're offering them the opportunity to build their future career.
