BIRDS EYE VIEW’S FILMMAKER TRAINING PROGRAMME, FILMONOMICS, RETURNS FOR A SECOND YEAR
Applications are now open for the second Birds Eye View Filmonomics programme!
Birds Eye View’s highly acclaimed flagship film-business training programme Filmonomics will return in January 2015, with new focuses on developing confidence, facing failure and rejection and trend-forecasting for storytelling and future audiences. Supported by Creative Skillset, Filmonomics was created in association with former Screen International editor-in-chief Colin Brown, author of the Filmonomics blog for Slated.com.
The bespoke programme is targeted at established women and BAME film practitioners, and is designed to bridge the gap between development and distribution, mixing industry knowledge with behind the scenes networking and discussions on vital topics such as finance, teams, marketing, exhibition and audience development. One of the unique aspects of the programme is the focus on the individual with sessions focusing on increasing confidence. Previous speakers in the first programme included director Joanna Hogg, actor Gale Harold and editor of Screen International, Wendy Mitchell as well as industry insiders Clare Binns, Kate Gardiner and Julia Short.
Due to the support of Creative Skillset there are a number of bursaries available.
Kate Gerova, Creative Director of Birds Eye View and founder of the programme said: ’the best endorsement for the programme are the comments from the participants and they were overwhelmingly positive. This programme really does fill in those gaps. If you’ve spent years developing your film then you need to know what’s going to happen to it next and be able to make the best decision for your work.’
Mia Bays, who was fundamental in the development of the inaugural Filmonomics programme, and who will take the reins as Director of this year’s scheme, added: “I’m passionate about passing on knowledge and experience to others, especially to ensure underrepresented creative voices are heard. The combination of personal and professional development makes for an open and inclusive atmosphere that is energising for both participants and speakers, and I’m thrilled we are able to continue the programme for another year”.
The programme further builds on Birds Eye View’s strong record of training and talent development, including Re:Animate and She Writes in partnership with BAFTA, The Script Factory and Warp Films.
