The Gig List 5: Anthony Chalmers lines up the week's best London gigs
This is the new blog that tells you the sweetest London gigs for the next seven days. God don't like it, but we do. Take it away Chalmers.
Aaaanyway, onto the recommendations for the week!
Monday:
On Monday night I'm at Cafe Oto for Damo Suzuki with Hyrst supporting and a fantastic backing band but that's sold out so no point plugging that so I reckon Tristram, Stars of Sunday Leagu & Adelade's Cape at The Luminaire is a winning option and Fanfarlo are playing Rough Trade as well.
Tuesday:
On Tuesday there is just a host of incredible shows, I think I'm going to go to Rough Trade for These New Puritans early, then maybe Hoxton Bar & Kitchen for Local Natives and then ther is a super amazing free entry line up at Old Blue Last with The Neat, Sex Beet, Veronica Falls & Not Cool all performing. Maybe give Local Natives a miss and try to watch all the bands there! And thats not to mention amazing Memory Tapes/Mat Riveire show at The Social.l Aaah too many things that night....
Wednesday:
Wednesday is all about Speak and the Spells, Stavin' Chains and No Cars at Catch, is free and all the bands are fantastic. I'm releasing a record with Speak and the Spells really soon so it's exciting! Im quite gutted that there is a brilliant lineùp at Old Blue Last that night too with Thee Vicars, The Sticks & Trash Kit which will be a fucking fiiiine show as well!
Thursday:
Thursday has a few more great shows, I reckon HTRK & Factory Floor at Cargo will be amazing and across the road at The Legion Othello Wolf are having their single launch. Also just remembered it's the Borderlines relaunch that night with The Invisible and Mothlite. Heard the refurb in there is really nice but havent had a chance to check it out yet. Quite liked how it was before to be honest but lets see ay!
Friday:
Friday I'm hosting The Lock Tavern with some friends which is always fucking great laugh, soul, rocknroll, garage, girl groups that sort of thing for the most part. Apar from that there is some ace shows as well. Good Shoe, WIld Palms & Othello Wolf at The Stags Head looks like a winner and also Withered Hand, Sweet Baboo & Lofty Heights at The Wilmington Arms be ace too.
Saturday:
Saturday gig wise is all about The Local's Shhhh Festival at Cecil Sharp House. David Thomsa Broughton is playing and thats worth the ticket alone. And there is about 6 or 7 other brilliant bands too. If don't fancy chilled bands then well theeeeen sure is some ace things on but not seeing it.... hmmm must be tired. Probably something good on at The Stags Head or something!
Sunday:
Sunday I'm doing a folky all dayer with some really ace bands like Lofty Heights, Jamie N Commons & Maple Mountain, is 7 bands and only 3pd in from 4:00 should be lovely :)
Think thats getting be about it! I'm going to start doing a weekly band recommendation and I'm going to start with one of my favorite bands who I think are totally underrated, the stunningly good Chimes & Bells.
