The Gig List 4: Anthony Chalmers lines up the week's best London gigs
New Year, new music. Anthony Chalmers is back telling you the greatest gigs for this week. God don't like it, but we do. Take it away Chalmers
Alright folks! So after being off for Xmas it's the first blog of 2010, first week of Jan is notoriously quiet for gigs apart from Jan 2nd/3rd weekend which clubbing wise is amazing! Anyway does seem to be some good stuff on though to point you in the direction of!
Sooooo Monday today, I was going to go to the Rough Trade Pub Quiz at The Lexington which is all about music and Paul Guided Missile hosts it who is a bit of a legend, is really good fun and then can go see band upstairs after... only problem is I decided to have an early night so went to bed bout 12 and ended up waking up at 5:00?! Teach me to have an early night....so anyway lets see how feel tonight! Apart from that don't see a whole load on tonight...
Tuesday one of the big tips for this year Esben & the Witch are headling White Heat @ Madame JoJo's. They are definitely worth checking out, brilliant band and lovely folks. Also Adelade's Cape are playing at Monkey Chews in Camden who I have heard good things about but am not that familiar with... yet! Your find me at Hoxton Pony for friends b-day drinks, why Hoxton Pony?! No fucking idea....
Wednesday will be a night in methinks but can recommend going to see Post War Years at Hoxton Bar & Kitchen, friends over at Popular are promoting it and they normally put really good stuff on... hmmm don't really see anything else on Wed.
Thursday I'm hosting The Dust Bar in Clerkenwell with bunch of friends Djin etc pretty low key but good times. The gig of the night has gotta be Field Music & Lawrence Arabia at Hoxton Bar & K. Both brilliant bands and it's FM comeback gig after bit of a hiatus if it wasn't so near the New Years that gig would be definite sell-out so def head down!
Apart from that one of my favorite bands Thee Single Spy are playing at The Monarch and some people's big tips from 2010 Delphic are playing The Garage.
Friday... I'm down at 93 Feet East for co-promo with Playground who do a lot of free friday things down there, me and some friends are Djing the Pink Bar (opening bar bit when come in) it's free and seems to be some good bands on! Although must say not familiar with most of them...
Sooooo coming to the first weekend of the 2010! 2000 and fucking 10 ay amazing, have you heard The Rayographs before? They are stunningly good, got their 2nd single on now... okay got sidetracked, whats happening on Saturday.... hmmm I think best has got to be Witches Hat @ The Slaughtered Lamb, it's a folk night hosted by Emil Brynge who sings in Maple Mountain. Sure to be an ace night, Lail Arad & The Momeraths are playing live.....
And last but not least Sunday... hardly see anything for Sunday! Might as well stay in... hmmm Yummy Fur at The Lexington seems like a winner or perhaps a nice pub lunch! I went to The Brittania in Victoria Park not that long ago and that was a nice roast!
Aaaaaaaaaand on Monday afternoon Tristram is playing at Puregroove, he is amazing so definitely come down :) On stage at 1:15.
This is amazing got about half my days work done and it's 8:30 something can be said for starting work at 6:00 I guess.... hmmmm might not agree with that later! Anyway have a good week!
