The Gig List 12: Anthony Chalmers lines up the week's best London gigs
This is the new blog that tells you the sweetest London gigs for the next seven days. God don't like it, but we do. Did you come down and see TEAM RUN-RIOT play tunes at the Moonshine Jamboree on Sunday? Chalmers did, a pink cocktail in each hand...
Today I Am forcing myself to do some work after not feeling so hot after Old Queens Head all dayer (discovered that 2 drinks tokens = one cocktail which totally made my day!)
Tonight (Monday 15th March) there is a whole host of good gigs Tallest Man on Earth at Bush Hall is a lovely one but has long since sold out so I think I'm going to pop down to Hoxton Bar & Kitchen for A Grave With No Name, Yuck & Celestial Bodies should be a gooden, hosted by No Pain in Pop who work with lots of ace bands. Apart from that Retribution Gospel Choir at Cargo should be fun they are fronted by Alan Sparhawk from Low and play pretty dirty classic rock & roll.
Tuesday isn't such a busy one but I reckon it's got to be Why? at Heaven should be pretty good fun also Illfit at The Social which is always free and showcase's lots of great bands that the Line of Best Fit/SIC associated night are working with.
Wednesday is one of those days with just tons of great shows on... the legendary Jethro Tull at Union Chapel has got to be a winner! Maybe it's sold out you bloody would have hoped so, Jethro Tull!! Then there is Spectrum at The Luminiare, they feature 2 of the 3 members of Spaceman 3 and make some amazing music. And lastly one of my favorite underrated bands Artefacts for Space Travel are playing 93 Feet East.
Thursday there are two great free entry gig both within 3 minutes walk of each other so can check out both! At The Foundry bar in Shoreditch there is the opening of an exhibition featuring art by Rachel Dadd. She is playing live and also Tristram is playing too! Then just down the road at Old Blue Last it's the Vice Issue Launch which might not be everyone's cup of tea however Cold Cave are playing live and thats worth going! I'm sure that CC will be on really late as well so can easily go to both :)
Then Friday I'm back in town for a REALLY fun night at Bloomsbury Bowling Lanes with Speak & the Spells and The Telegrams playing live plus Bowling, Arcades, Pool, Fusball, Diner, great DJ's and it's open till 3. Basically it's massive epic amounts of fun, looking forward to it lots.
Saturday I'm down at Lock Tavern for a GDLI vs Foals DJ set which should be pretty fun night. Apart from that Bo Ningen are playing at Cafe Oto and they are pretty much the best band in London so if you haven't seen them you know what to do!
Sunday I'm going to be a shivering mess in my bed after Lanes & Lock Tavern but if your still feeling up for it Wild Beasts are playing with Esben & the Witch at Koko which should be great. Also Magnetic Fields at The Barbican should be a fairly special evening I know a lot of people are looking forward to that.
I try to fit in a bit of a musical recommendation and I was recently introduced to a two the duo Elite Barbarian by a couple of well informed friends and I’m REALLY happy that they did!
I’m a bit of a novice when it comes to electronic music to say the least but I’ve decided not to dip my toe in but just dive in headfirst and Elite Barbarian are probably the best thing I have heard in the last few days.
I am not really qualified to chatter on about them as I haven’t really got a clue beyond that they are ace! Check out their myspace here:
...
I’d say the 2nd track is a killer, enjoy!
