The Floating Cinema, a 10-week programme of events throughout summer 2013, returns to London's waterways next month. The Floating Cinema has been designed by Duggan Morris Architects in partnership with artists and filmmakers Nina Pope and Karen Guthrie (aka Somewhere) and is conceived as a collection of 'extraordinary cargoes' placed atop a traditional, industrial canal barge.

The Floating Cinema 2013 Extra-Ordinary programme will launch at the Open East Festival, which has been programmed by the Barbican and Create London to celebrate the one year anniversary of the London 2012 Olympic Opening Ceremony in the North area of the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park on 27 - 28 July.

Floating Cinema will screen shorts on-board the boat across these two days. Besides on-board screenings, Floating Cinema 2013 will host large scale outdoor films for bankside audiences plus floating tours of the waterways, talks, and an education project working with local communities.

Other highlights of the 2013 programme include: 'Troubled Waters' - a new series of hosted tours led by experts in human remains and London's burial grounds; A fancy dress outdoor screening of Tim Burton's stop frame animation FRANKENWEENIE; an outdoor 'Horror Weekender' on the canal side steps in King's Cross' Granary Square - This two-day event will include a live séance, 'Zombie FX', classic Hammer Horror screenings as well as on board Director Q&A sessions and talks.
