His stature as the God Father of the form is obvious to anyone who has the pleasure of seeing his work in its many reproduced forms, the work was original only intended for the mass-produced worlds of comic books and sci-fi /fantasy literature. Frazetta was the first artist to bring to life the work of Edgar Rice Burroughs, whose Frazetta illustrated series of John Carter of Mars books where recently adapted in to a Hollywood movie, the visual side of which paid great homage to this true pioneering visionaries style. With an astonishing career starting in Brooklyn at the tender age of 14 and going on to span 50 years up until his sad passing in 2010, his influence can be seen in sci-fi art, cinema, graffiti, heavy metal cover art and comic books such as Britons very own 2000 AD.
The Drawers Gallery curated by Timothy Stevens, is proud to be the first gallery in the UK to house a major retrospective of the great man's illustrations. With the permission of Mr Frazetta's family, the gallery will be exhibiting over 40 prints of the master's most popular illustrations.

Frazetta (February 9, 1928 – May 10, 2010) was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. At the age of eight, at the insistence of his school teachers, Frazetta's parents enrolled him in the Brooklyn Academy of Fine Arts. He attended the academy for eight years under the tutelage of Michele Falanga, an award-winning Italian fine artist. Falanga was struck by Frazetta's significant talent. Frazetta's abilities flourished under Falanga, who dreamed of sending Frazetta to Europe, at his own expense, to further his studies. Unfortunately, Falanga died suddenly in 1944 and with him, his dream. As the school closed about a year after Falanga's passing, Frazetta was forced to find work to earn a living.
The fella never looked back, once.
