Showcasing the the very best in environmental photography and film, from amateur and professional photographers alike, who have travelled to all corners of the earth and recorded our changing world.
23 June - 4 July.
Having received over 10.000 entries this year, the panel of judges have selected works that are contemporary, creative, resonant, original and beautiful. The 80 selected images have been captured by amateur and professional photographers alike who have travelled to all corners of the earth and recorded our changing world. They have produced powerful images of the daily struggle in many of our cities across the globe. Selected works examine issues such as innovation, sustainable development, biodiversity, poverty, climate change, human rights, culture, natural disasters and population growth.
The entries were judged on impact, composition, originality and technical ability by the panel comprising Paul Horton , Director of Membership and Development, CIWEM; Brigitte Lardinois, Deputy Director of Photography and the Archive Research Centre at University of the Arts London; Tim Parkin, landscape photographer and Editor of On Landscape; and David Tonkin, Chief Executive Officer, UK and Europe, Atkins.
For the first time, the competition will also include the Atkins Cityscape Prize, celebrating the best of the world’s city landscapes. With 75 per cent of the world’s population expected to live in cities within the next 40 years, these images are a powerful reminder about the challenges we face and how we need to work harder at future proofing our cities.
The Prizes will be announced on 24 June 2014, at 7.15pm. They include:
The Atkins CIWEM Environmental Photographer of the Year of £5000
The Atkins CIWEM Environmental Film of the Year of £1000
The Atkins Cityscape Prize of £1000
The Forestry Commission England Exhibition Award - One photographer will be invited to exhibit a solo show at one of England’s public forests.
