How to determine the sex of a guinea pig

line_ok
Guinea pigs are one of the favorite pets that children especially love. They are quite petite, not naughty and not whimsical. If you are going to have one animal, then there is no fundamental difference in the field, but if you want to buy a couple of pigs, then you should take care of the sex of the guinea pig, since same-sex animals are quite aggressive towards each other, unlike opposite-sex ones.
It is not always possible to determine the sex of a guinea pig by its behavior, since the behavior of males and females is similar. The identification process is also complicated by the fact that it is more difficult to do this in small cubs compared to adults.
As a rule, veterinarians recommend buying a couple of animals, although in this case it is impossible to avoid adding to the family.
Sometimes, when buying one animal, the buyer tries to purchase exclusively a male, because in this case, the sudden pregnancy of a female will not come as a surprise. This can happen if different-sex guinea pigs are kept together in the same cage and in this case random mating takes place. This point is complicated by the fact that the first pregnancy in a female is a rather complicated process in itself. And if this happens in an immature individual, it can even lead to the death of the animal.
Therefore, before buying a guinea pig, be sure to inspect the animal, and it is best to purchase it in a specialized store. So how do you determine the sex of a guinea pig?
The easiest way to determine the sex of guinea pigs is to examine the side of the abdomen, where you visually have to estimate the distance from the urethra to the anus – the larger and more noticeable it is, the more likely it is a male.
Since it is quite difficult to track this moment in very small animals, it is possible to resort to another gender identification procedure. For this purpose, the guinea pig is turned on its back so that the genitals are visible. When you press on the lower abdomen, the female will have a Y-shaped slit, and the male will be able to see the penis. However, this physical procedure will require care not to hurt the animal. The advantage of this technique is a 100% guarantee of determining the sex of a guinea pig and it is usually used by breeders.
A big misconception is the method of determining the sex of guinea pigs by the presence of nipples. This is fundamentally not true, since nipples are present in both females and males. Therefore, this method will not be informative. https://king-567.com/
