Through out July, the BFI Southbank dedicate a season to Wong Kar Wai, cinema’s most evocative master of bittersweet romance.

This July the BFI celebrates Wong Kar Wai - Hong Kong’s great auteur. Using breathtaking visuals and non-linear narratives, he builds ravishing, dreamlike worlds full of saturated colours, introspective voiceovers and characters burning with repressed longing. This season is an unmissable treat, with many restorations and films rarely-seen on the big screen.

Wong Kar Wai has established himself as one of the defining auteurs of contemporary cinema and this complete retrospective includes 7 brand-new 4K restorations, 5 of which have been overseen by Wong Kar Wai himself. Titles  include offbeat love story CHUNGKING EXPRESS (1994), breathtaking romance IN THE MOOD FOR LOVE (2000), alluring period drama 2046 (2004), thrilling historical biopic THE GRANDMASTER (2013) and many more.
