BLOOM! dance collective present their new piece The End Is Near at The Place, London’s premier centre for contemporary dance, on Fri 15 and Sat 16 June.
The End Is Near is inspired by the idea of modern day superheroes, and their role in the urban life’s ordinary routine. In deconstructing the many guises of the modern day hero, BLOOM! have developed a collective vocabulary of movements and styles, playfully shifting between dichotomies of self and other, language and gesture, understanding and misunderstanding. The End Is Near pieces together a series of characters in a survey of extraordinary daily activities, in a witty performance that is profound and trashy.
The collaborative process of creation is characteristic of the company, who is based in both London and Budapest. In The End Is Near the company’s 5 members, choreographers Vicktoria Danyi (HU), Csaba Molnar (SK), Moreno Solinas (It), Igor Urzelai (SP) and musician Alberto Ruiz Soler (SP), are joined by guest artists Jamila Johnson-Small (UK) and Tamara Zsofia Vadas (HU).
The End Is Near is supported by Arts Council England, Open Latitudes, The Place, Yorkshire Dance, Workspace Brussels, Escalator Dance, The National Cultural Fund of Hungary (NKA), and SIN Cultural Centre (Budapest).
