Let My Country Awake

'I’m a product of London subculture’s' Bishi Bhattacharya

Our Guest Editor this week is visionary musician, producer, composer, Bishi. On Friday 15 October, she releases her third album, Let My Country Awake on her independent label, Gryphon Records.

The album was originally commissioned by National Sawdust in Brooklyn and draws on eclectic influences from the book The Good Immigrant and Rabindranath Tagore’s Nobel Prize winning poem Gitanjali, and of course features her trademark electric sitar.

The album will be performed live at the Southbank Centre on Wednesday 13 October (we're running a special offer to see it for just £5!).

In her Run-Riot interview, Bishi speaks to artist and writer Leslie Deere, here.

Is artist Gavin Turk taking the piss? Writer Eli Goldstone quizzes him about his latest work, 'Piscio d’Artista'. The new production of Cabaret (with Eddie Redmayne and Jessie Buckley) opens on 15 November. We talk to the shows choreographer, Julia Cheng who's making her debut.

Forever topical, grassroots Festival of Europe is crowdfunding. They have a vision. You might be interested. Bingo! hits Chelsea Theatre bought to you by the worlds No. 1 environmentally friendly drag lady, Timberlina. Cult cabaret sensations Bourgeois & Maurice are back with a live show.

What about ticket competitions? See The Drop by Swamp Motel, the award winning masters of immersive theatre. Or dance with Paddington's band Tobago and D’Lime at the British Library. More music with Chicago's Black Monument Ensemble, or head to the BFI for Steve McQueen's Alex Wheatle. Or see Bishi for a fiver! Wow!

Engage how you can, enjoy, stay safe. We'll write again soon. Bottoms up! Jamie x
