An evening of cosmic soundscapes & glitching polyrhythms, LSSF goes out with a bang with big vocals & uncompromising Afrofuturism. Featuring live performances from Nkisi, Xana & Shannen SP & more.

LSFF’s Closing Night showcases the black women artists of London synthesising Afrofuturism through their electronic experiments. Expect big vocals and irresistible afrobeats, underscored with atmospheric loopings and modular improvisation, diasporic electronica and sparse South African house. To accompany, the women-led music videos that have come to define the Afrofuturist aesthetic, from Janelle Monae to Missy Elliot.

NKISI (UIQ) (LIVE) - Nkisi will perform an exclusive live premiere ahead of her album launch (7 Directions) in January 2019. Expect big vocals and irresistible afrobeats, underscored with atmospheric loopings and modular improvisation, diasporic electronica and sparse South African house.

SHANNEN SP (DJ SET) - Shannen SP is the co-curator and resident DJ at Corsica Corisca Studio’s monthly experimental club night ø, host of monthly NTS radio show I.D.S.T and on the Hyperdub books. Her sets are known for combining Afrofuturist beats with diasporic electronic music like gqom, kuduro and terraxo.

XANA (LIVE) - Xana is a looper musician and poet who combines looper techniques with freestyle rap, storytelling, sound experiments, poetry, beatbox and improvisation, taking inspiration from the spheres of Afrofuturism, Blaxploitation, funk and dancehall. As a sound designer, she has collaborated with artists in theatre and on film, including Cecile Emeke’s The Ancestors Came and Travis Alabanza’s Burgerz.
