Art historian Gemma Blackshaw discusses Egon Schiele's drawings of the naked female body in the context of pornography in Vienna at the turn of the twentieth century.

Focusing on an 'obscene' portfolio of prints from drawings by Schiele implicated in the 1923 arrest of one of his dealers, Gemma will look at the incriminating relationships between drawing and photography, art and pornography that defined the young artist's modernist practice.

Gemma has contributed to the catalogue accompanying the forthcoming exhibition Egon Schiele: The Radical Nude at The Courtauld Gallery (23 Oct 2014 – 18 January 2015); her talk will be based on this research and will include illustrations of the images on display.

Part of a season of talks and events accompanying the exhibition Freud and Eros: Love, Lust and Longing, 22 October 2014 - 22 February 2015.
