The man behind one of America’s weirdest and most interesting record labels, Mississippi Records, presents an evening of talks and film.
Mississippi Records began in a record shop of the same name in Portland, Oregon. Theirs is an unusual success story – with no press strategy, distribution connections, or even a website, Mississippi’s reputation has grown almost exclusively via word-of-mouth. Mississippi has released remarkable archival recordings, all of them records that hit Isaacson on a personal and emotional level, from itinerant one-man-band Abner Jay to theremin virtuoso Clara Rockmore.
At this evening of talks and film at Cafe Oto, Isaacson shines more of a light on the Mississippi story and his connection to the music, his theories and ideas on the history of music, alongside archival films documenting the musicians themselves.
