The Kennedy assassination, Area 51, Elvis Presley’s death and of course, the moon landings- throughout the past 100 years of drastic change in society, conspiracy theories have remained a constant.

A free public lecture at Museum of London in June will examine the recent and current research into conspiracy theories and their apparent prevalence in the Twentieth and Twenty First Centuries.

Conspiracy theories seem to be everywhere nowadays, encouraged by the internet, and perhaps also by postmodern scepticism.

But are they really more common than they used to be, and if so, do they constitute a threat to democracy, as a number of commentators have argued? Are they indeed more prevalent in democracies than in dictatorships?

This lecture, by Professor Sir Richard Evans FBA, Provost of Gresham College, looks at recent and current research to come up with some surprising answers. There is no need to book in advance for this lecture. It runs on a first come first served basis.
