Singer, songwriter and leader of The Pretenders, Chrissie Hynde, talks about her rock'n'roll career, alongside her move into painting and new book ‘Adding The Blue’.

Chrissie Hynde is an American musician who is best known as a founding member of the rock band The Pretenders. As singer, songwriter and guitarist, she has been the only constant member of the band since they formed in 1978. The Pretenders have worked with a wide variety of musicians including Frank Sinatra, UB40, Neil Young and most recently Dan Auerbach of the Black Keys. The Pretenders were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2005.

With forewords by musician and artist Brian Eno and the RA’s Artistic Director Tim Marlow, Adding The Blue is an illustrated volume of Hynde’s paintings, from still-life studies to vibrant abstract compositions that are, in Eno’s words, “full of life, love and discovery”. In this conversation with Tim Marlow, Hynde discusses her rock’n’roll career and her new dedication to painting.
