Philadelphia-born Eliza McCarthy was tutored by Rolf Hind at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. She won both top prizes at the British Contemporary Piano Competition 2013 and co-devised several theatre projects including Think Only This of Me (a production combining text, movement and her own original music).

She was selected as a Park Lane Group Young Artist for the 2009/2010 season and has since worked with musicians and composers including George Crumb, Tansy Davies, Mica Levi, James MacMillan, Judith Weir and John Adams.

In 2012 she became pianist for Birmingham-based contemporary music ensemble Decibel and performs as a soloist at venues including Barbican Centre and Wigmore Hall.
