A coming of age tale and feature debut from Brazilian director Daniel Ribeiro, starring Ghilherme Lobo as lead character Leonardo – a blind high school student.

He and his friend Giovanna (Tess Amorim) express an interest in finding romantic partners, coinciding with the arrival of a new student, Gabriel, at the school. Leonardo feels a romantic attraction to Gabriel, but faces competition.

The film also explores Leonardo’s desire to break out from underneath his parents’ overprotection during his journey into the exciting world of adulthood, with Leonardo and Gabriel sneaking out to the movies to watch a lunar eclipse (which Gabriel describes to Leonardo) and even getting drunk together. But how will this new relationship affect his long-term friendship with Giovanna?

Daniel Ribeiro won the Iris Prize for the short film I Don't Want to Go Back Alone, which The Way He Looks was based upon.

From 24 October (in various cinemas).
