As one of the most famous directors of world cinema, Bergman - A Year in a Life exposes the darkness of the soul in riveting visual imagery.

Dates and Times: Sun 03 Feb 16:00 & Tue 05 Feb 18:30.

Following the centenary of his birth, the film unpicks the many contradictory elements of legendary Swedish director – Ingmar Bergman, whose powerful black-and-white imagery and symbolism re-introduced the creative magic of cinema in the second half of the 20th century. The central focus is 1957 the year which the director describes as his most prolific; The Seventh Seal and Wild Strawberries have their premieres. He directs four major theatre productions, has six children with four different women and several affairs. The film is an intimate, unwavering look at this problematic behaviour and his impact on film history – influencing many directors from Ang Lee to Lars Von Trier and Martin Scorsese. Even for those unfamiliar with his work, there is enough here to profoundly respect the reach of his vision.
