This curated screening event will be showing a number of films from the Cinenova feminist moving image collection that deal with different aspects of Space.

The programme will include films around race, identity, sexuality, gender, and ideas such as having a space in history; interior and exteriors; occupying space; and the public and private.

Curated by Rhiannon Moxham and Becky Buckman, Occupying Space will take place at LUX in Waterlow Park and is part of the Antiuniversity Now festival (1-16 June 2017)

Initiated in 2015, Antiuniversity Now is a collaborative experiment to challenge institutionalised education, access to learning and the mechanism of knowledge creation and distribution. Antiuniversity Now was set up to reignite the 1968 Antiuniversity of London with the intention to challenge academic and class hierarchy and the exclusivity of the £9K-a-year-degree by inviting people to organise and share free learning events in public spaces all over the country. It is free, open and inclusive.

LUX is an international arts agency that supports and promotes artists’ moving image practices and the ideas that surround them. Founded in 2002 as a charity and not-for-profit limited company, the organisation builds on a long lineage of predecessors (The London Film-Makers’ Co-operative, London Video Arts and The Lux Centre) which stretch back to the 1960s.

Cinenova is a non-profit organisation dedicated to distributing feminist films and videos. Founded in 1991 following the merger of two feminist film and video distributors, Circles and Cinema of Women.
