Watching the Spectators…

As we all know, behind every great production are a team of smart and savvy people who, with their expertise, talent and sheer hard work make that magic happen. From the fluid, collaborative world of creatives a new venture has been sparked. Allow us to introduce The Spectators Guild - a collaboration between producer Harry Ross, production designer Helen Scarlett O'Neill and director Charlotte Westenra. Having worked with the likes of Punchdrunk and Secret Cinema you can sense a certain flare for immersive theatrics they'll be presenting.

Their first show is an adaptation of Thomas Otoway's 1682 drama Venice Preserv'd (think of corrupted statesmen, a sinking London and a bunch of revolutionaries), staged at the Paynes and Borthwick Wharf in West Greenwich. We catch up with Harry Ross, our Guest Editor this week who tells us more about the production before it opens on 24 April - read the interview here.

In our Magazine Donald Hutera talks to the Russian choreographer Boris Eifman who's renowned for his ballets of passion and tragedy, while his productions of Rodin and Anna Karenina open at the London Coliseum this week. Cabaret stalwart Lara Clifton reviews Ben Walters' premiere night 'Come with me if you want to live' which took place in the foyer of Chelsea Theatre. After 5-years as the Time Out Cabaret Editor, Ben cut his teeth as a promoter - but it wasn't without a particularly charmed anxiety.

What about London at Easter? A few tips. Fri: Morning Glory all-nighter at Oval Space (booze-free lock-in), hashtag at the BGWMC (DJ's with 3-min performance interventions). Sat: Art Macabre at The Book Club (deathly life drawing), Delia Derbyshire Day at The Horse Hospital (tribute to early electronic sound artist, most renowned for the Dr Who theme). Sun: Park life vs cinema of course - weather permitting. Mon: Feast of St George in Trafalgar Square.

As for booking ahead with the best of the rest - check out The Royal Society for the Pursuit of Love Birds (yes, it's a dating event in Hampstead Park, 26 April); The Goblin Kings Masquerade Ball (2 May); or The Great May Masquerade Ball at the Coronet Theatre (24 May). We've also highlighted a number of screenings coming up in our film section - Madeleine Sackler's 'Dangerous Acts starring The Unstable Elements of Belarus', Roman Polanski's Venus in Fur, BUG 42 The Evolution of Music Video, Mulholland Drive, and Punk Singer.

Have a spectacular week dear Players! Bottoms up! RRxx
