Gossip - new single: ‘Jealous Girls’

Release Date: 20th August 2007

The unstoppable force that is Gossip return with their third single from their landmark, gold selling album Standing In The Way Of Control. Previously planned for release last February, it was delayed due to overwhelming demand for their massive hit ‘Standing In The Way Of Control’ after Channel 4 used the gay rights anthem on a trailer for teenage drama Skins.

Over the last 12 months, Gossip have spiralled from underground riot indie punk darlings to mainstream superstardom. From being voted number one in NME’s cool list and that controversial nude cover shoot, Q Magazine naming the band second in the world’s top ten most exciting bands around, to hanging out with the likes of Yoko Ono… for a trio from Arkansas you just couldn’t make it up.

‘Jealous Girls’ shows off their fiery punk-soul side in delicious contrast to the deep groove-based sounds of their previous singles ‘Standing In The Way Of Control’ and ‘Listen Up’. This time, remixes come from New Young Pony Club, Phones and Dolby Anol, but perhaps the piece de resistance of this release is the ferocious live version taken from 100 Club in summer 2006 which conjures up the passion and perspiration of Gossip live shows only too vividly. The video was shot in London by directors du jour, Team Stush, the wunderkids who’ve previously made videos for the likes of LCD Soundsystem and Klaxons.

Gossip follow the release with a full UK tour this Autumn. For a band who built their now glittering reputation on legendary and impassioned live shows, this is the perfect opportunity to catch Gossip at the top of their game and spreading their unique blend of party punk riot grrrl soul all over the country.

The band will also be in the UK to play the festivals this summer, already performing a career defining show at this years’s Glastonbury. Headlining the John Peel stage on the Sunday, Beth Ditto gave Dame Shirley Bassey a run for her money as the festival’s star attraction. They will also play the main stage at Reading and Leeds as well as appearances at Oxegen and Bestival.
