Artistic duo Matthew Collings and Emma Biggs discuss two paintings by Willem de Kooning in front of the works themselves, in this in-gallery talk.

Matthew Collings and Emma Biggs compare de Kooning’s Dark Pond (1948) and Woman II (1952). Drawing on these paintings, Biggs and Collings discuss their appreciation of de Kooning as a painter who upsets the usual idea realistic representation in art to create something completely surprising. Collings and Biggs question whether works can any longer be categorised as abstract or figurative.

Matthew Collings and Emma Biggs are an artistic duo who have collaborated since 2001. Internationally renowned for their abstract works on canvas, they create multiple shifting patterns generated from a basic geometric format.
